The Trustless Framework: Codifying Accountability in Digital Payments

Honor through automation. Code over trust. Trustless Payments enforces outcomes on XRPL using escrow conditions, transparent fees, and a deflationary loop that rewards builders over rent-seekers.

Abstract

Trustless Payments is an escrow automation system for XRPL. Creators define objective conditions (e.g., market-cap target within a deadline). Funds are held until conditions are met. If satisfied, funds release; if not, they refund. No middlemen, no negotiation—just code enforcing outcomes.

Economically, the system funds development through a 5.89% escrow fee, split 50% to development operations and 50% to automatic market buy-and-burn of the associated token, reinforcing a level playing field.

1. Problem

  • Trust failure: Hand-shake promises, subjective milestones, and social pressure produce fraud and drama.
  • Coordination tax: Human arbitration adds delays, bias, and costs.
  • Perverse incentives: Rent-seekers thrive; honest builders bear risk.

2. Solution: Enforced Escrow

Replace trust with verifiable conditions and machine enforcement. The Trustless Telegram bot walks users through escrow creation, funding, and automated resolution. Conditions can reference measurable on-chain or off-chain data (e.g., token market cap from reputable sources) and are evaluated on a schedule until expiry.

Create: Amount, recipient, contract address, target market cap, expiry (days).
Fund: Send exact XRP with bot-provided memo/tag. Post TX hash; the bot detects funding.
Resolve: If target met before deadline → release; else → refund.

3. Mechanics

  • Escrow records: Stored with unique memo/tag, status timeline, and immutable audit fields.
  • Condition checks: A scheduler evaluates goals against data sources at intervals until resolution.
  • Determinism: State transitions are rule-based and logged.
  • Compatibility: Built for XRPL; architecture permits multi-chain expansion.

Implementation note: for MVP we standardize deadlines as N days and use market-cap whole numbers. Advanced condition templates are planned.

4. Fees & Buy-Burn

  • Escrow creation fee: 5.89%
  • Split: 50% to dev operations / 50% to automated market buy-and-burn of the associated token.
  • NFT holder target fee: ~1% (planned mechanics).

Every split and burn is observable on-chain. No private ledgers. No hidden allocations.

5. Token ($TRLS)

$TRLS aligns incentives with product usage. Demand from fees → buy-and-burn loop reduces circulating supply over time while funding continued development.

6. Security & Risks

  • Key handling: Users never share private keys with the bot. All transfers are user-signed on XRPL interfaces of their choice.
  • Data integrity: Market-cap feeds are validated and sanity-checked; failures trigger safe fallback behavior.
  • Irreversibility: On-chain actions cannot be reversed. Users must verify addresses, tags, and amounts.
  • Known limitations (MVP): Condition templates intentionally simplified (days, whole-number caps) to minimize complexity and attack surface.

7. Governance & NFTs

Governance begins utility-first: ship core enforcement, then expand influence. The planned Trustless Toads NFT collection provides fee reductions and community signaling. Token-weighted and NFT-gated proposals may be introduced after security reviews.

8. Roadmap

  • MVP: Telegram flow, escrow creation, funding detection, periodic condition checks, release/refund, fee split + buy-burn.
  • Hardening: Monitoring loop reliability, data source redundancy, incident logging.
  • Expansion: Advanced condition templates, multi-chain support, permissionless developer extensions.
